MEET THE TEAM
John Taankink
CO-OWNER
It was John’s passion for cars that brought him into the car and panel industry. He has 9 cars total at home that he tinkers with regularly. In his career he’s done everything from selling auto supplies to detailing cars, but it was his enjoyment of dealing directly with people that led him to the purchase of the business with Jason. They had worked closely together previously and they both knew the others hopes to one day own their own business, so it made sense to buy together.
Jason Jackson
CO-OWNER
Jason had tried his hand at a few different trades in his mid-teens, from cabinet making to boilermaker, but he eventually landed as an apprentice spray painter and it felt like the right fit. He left school at 16 and stepped straight into his apprenticeship, and has been painting cars ever since. He has had a couple of side tracks from spray painting throughout the years, having worked as a supervisor with disabled people in a car detailing business, and directly prior to purchasing the business with John, stepping away from the tools to sell those tools of the trade to other panel shops as a supply company rep. He’s always wanted to own his own shop though and he look forward to the business growing from here.
Tavis McCallum
APPRENTICE SPRAY PAINTER
It was his interest in cars that encouraged Tavis to seek a school based placement with A & T Autocare, who were happy to have him. He’s shown a keen interest in learning all aspects of car prep, with a focus on spray painting specifically, and since then has transitioned into a full spray painting apprenticeship. Outside of work, Tavis loves to play drums, whether alone or in a band. His other weekend pastime is local football, playing reserves for the Cavendish Football Club.
Shane Price
PANEL BEATER
Like many people who have been in the industry for a long time, Shane also came straight out of school at 15 into his panel beating apprenticeship. It was his interest in cars at a young age that bought him into the industry. He has worked locally in panel shops for over 25 years, with only a small stint in between working in fencing industry for 5 years. When not working, Shane is a dedicated family man running around after his children. He also enjoys shooting when he gets the chance, but also loves his local football. He’s been a Cavendish supporter via family connections for years and is a committee member of the Cavendish Football Club.
Jack Hutchins
PANEL BEATER
Jack’s passion for hot rods, custom and old cars is what attracted him to become a panel beater. He started his journey into the industry with a school based placement for a year and then transitioned into his full-time apprenticeship in 2011. Since then he’s worked hard to complete his apprenticeship a few years ago now and continue to grow his skills. While he doesn’t have any old cars of his own, he helps work on his father’s car for now and hopes to get his own in the future. He hopes to one day be able to work full-time on creating custom hot rods and restoring old cars.
Liam Kenny
APPRENTICE PANEL BEATER
Liam has been with A & T Autocare since he started in the industry. After doing work experience in a panel shop while at school, he decided he enjoyed it and wanted to make it his career. He began with a one day a week school based placement then transitioned into his apprenticeship full-time. He’s now in his fourth year of his apprenticeship. His appreciation for cars also extends to home where he enjoys working on cars in his spare time.
